Project Development, africa region

Nataij has been involved in supporting project development on a number of different levels, including assisting with a project preparation grant to build community resilience through adaptation investments in Kenya; developing an adaptation planning proposal for Gabon; and, on behalf of UNIDO, producing a baseline study on urban sustainability in the East African Community. In March 2017, Nataij headed to Kigali, Rwanda to present our findings from the UNIDO baseline study at the Sustainable Energy Forum for East Africa.



Capacity building and training,          pacific region

In 2016, Nataij assisted the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), a multi-national governmental organization that works to advance sustainable development, strengthen its capacity to deliver environmental initiatives across the Pacific region. The Nataij team designed a series of policies, procedures, and tools that were tailored specifically to SPREP’s organizational model and size. Topics addressed by the Nataij team included:

  • Financial Procedures
  • Internal Control Framework
  • Enterprise Risk Management
  • M&E System
  • Project Cycle Development
  • Environmental and Social Safeguards
  • Knowledge Management

The Nataij team also developed a set of training modules that corresponded with new policies and procedures. Training modules were both conducted in-person to SPREP staff and implemented as an online e-learning platform that can be accessed for future reference.


Environmental & social safeguard policy, Pacific region

Nataij supported the Micronesia Conservation Trust (MCT), a local non-profit based in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), with the development and implementation of an Environmental and Social Safeguard policy. In collaboration with local staff, the Nataij team designed procedures and guidelines to facilitate environmental and social risk screening, assessment, and management processes in the development of new projects. Topics addressed included:

  • Environmental and Social Safeguards
  • Gender Assessments and Analysis
  • Grievance Mechanism 
  • Due Diligence

The Nataij team also formulated a Gender Policy and a five-year action plan to advance gender equality and female empowerment through MCT’s grant cycle as well as throughout project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.  Local staff were trained on the new procedures and guidelines through a workshop administered by Nataij. 



accreditation support, asia regioN

Over the past two years, Nataij collaborated closely with Nepal's Ministry of Finance to offer guidance on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) accreditation processes. Specifically, our team supported the technical committee select national entities for nomination and assisted respective candidates to (i) strengthen internal mechanisms, (ii) draft, assemble, and submit the accreditation application, and (iii) respond to the Secretariat’s Stage 1 questions. Nataij is currently advising the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources on accreditation processes and providing technical support to selected national entities.
